Our Structure
A Past of History and Tradition
The Vieux Crest Refuge is born from the careful restoration of a historic cabin, inherited from the family and dating back to the times of the grandfather. This large Walser rascard, once a stable, barn, majon, and village school, preserves the charm of local traditions. Crest, a small Walser village dating back to the 1600s, is a witness to the passage of this population from the Swiss Valais region, who, during their commercial and religious migrations, settled at the foot of Monte Rosa. Here, they left behind their unique dwellings: the rascard.
The original materials – wood and stone – were preserved during the restoration, which transformed this corner of history into a welcoming and charming place where Walser tradition blends with the modernity of the refuge.
Since 1990, Vieux Crest has hosted visitors of all kinds. In summer, it is a favorite destination for trekkers and mountain enthusiasts who venture along the Alta Via N1, the Tor des Géants route, or circular trails such as the Tour des Six. The Refuge is also an ideal choice for groups of friends or families seeking a peaceful retreat among the peaks. In winter, it is the perfect base for ski lovers, thanks to its strategic location in the Monterosaski area, which includes the Ayas, Gressoney, and Alagna valleys, with 160 km of slopes.
What makes the Vieux Crest Refuge unique is the warmth emanating from its walls, rich in history and tradition, which continue to tell the past and transmit a sense of welcome and serenity to all those who stay there.
